Birthday dinner

For my birthday, Pigeon and I, Ethan & Will as well, went for dinner up the hills. Dressed up for the night...

Venue: Windy Point
Food: Not suggested
Atmosphere: Fantastic

I wanted to compare the quality of the food menu of Windy Point (this restaurant) and The Grange (the restaurant I went for my 1st year anniversary with Pigeon), therefore I ordered a similar full course menu, where the food and accompanied wine were served. The Grange had 10 course meal, but Windy point had only 7 course; of course there was a huge difference in price as well. Although I do not suggest anyone to go there for meals; the food is not that good, but the scenery was very beautiful!! So I'll just browse through the food "quickly".
The side bread is highly recommended!! It's nice and warm, fresh from the oven (plus one). A plus point for this restaurant.

Let the meals begin!!

Start off, we have "Demitasse of Lobster Bisque + 2006 Shaw & Smith M3 Chardonnay, Adelaide Hills" followed by "Confit Atlantic Salmon with horseradish potato cake and tobeko cream + 2006 Nepenthe Pinot Gris, Adelaide Hills".

These 2 dishes tasted good... very strong, thick lobster soup (Plus one) and fresh cook salmon tasted good as well.

Next comes "Seared Yellowfin Tuna, sashimi grade with potato and Parsley cake, capers, Roma tomatoes, chives and Kalamata olives + 2006 Cape Mentelle Sauvignon Blanc Semillon, Margaret River" and "Chicken and Gorgonzola Dumpling served in a duck and ginger broth + 2006 Kooyong Massale Pinot Noir, Mornington Peninsula"

The tuna was nice and fresh (tasted fresher ones). The next dish was not recommended at all. the soup is damn salty... I considered myself to eat food which are high in salt, but this dish had exceeded my salt tolerant level (minus one)

A small sorbet to wash off the salt.. Mandarin orange flavour (Yummy!! plus one)

Mains: "Blackmore Wagyu Scotch Fillet Steak, marble score 7 with puff pastry Wagyu pie, asparagus spears and Bordelaise jus + 2005 Mitolo The Jester Shiraz, McLaren Vale" and "Roquefort Papillon & Woodside Goats Curd, house made Lavosh, petite herbs, muscatels and poached ruby quince +2006 d'Arenberg Noble Riesling, McLaren Vale"

Another salty dish, aka the pie (big minus one). The steak was nice but not fantastic (no points given). Th cheese and quince was quite a nice blend (plus one).

Dessert : Rasberry Clafoutis with black berry caramel + 2006 Two Hands Brilliant Disguise Moscato, Barossa Valley

Finally a wine I recognise. It's a really nice white sweet wine. The sort of rasberry cake was nice but not fantastic too

My 2nd birthday cake bought by Ethan, from Cocolat! The cake freaking rich!! By the end of the dinner, I could only eat a little bit. The cake was finally finished after 10 days.hehe

The beautiful view of Adelaide city from the restaurant!!

Birthday Surprise...

Thank you Thank you to all my friends who organised my surprise midnight "party"...
I was in bed, sleeping off my throat and fever, but was dragged out of bed, by pigeon, about 11:15pm and headed to BuddhaBar (kareoke/club/pub).

At 12am of 15th September 2007, my cake arrived! The cake was very nice; rich but not heavy. Why is that?! cus it was a chocolate mousse cake.

Huggies to all of you !!! Thank you very much!

What can a sick person like me do in a kareoke room? sink in the couch and dozing off... What are the rest doing?? screaming their lungs out... Can you see the veins popping out of his neck?? =P hehehe

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Congratulations to Jessica and Randy!!!!!

This is one of my bestie in Adelaide who recently "got married". Her actual wedding is in November in Indonesia, but I went for her pre- wedding dinner in Adelaide.

Let me introduce you all to the happy bride, Jessica.... They exchanged their vows in front of a small group of family and friends.

Pre-Wedding Dinner in Hilton.

What do you think of the decorations?? Quite nice right!!... I didn't buy the decorations, but I helped out in the decorating itself.

Of course every wedding dinner there is food.... here are the food pictures!!

For Entree; we have Morton bay bug risotto, roast pumpkin, lime butter.

For mains we have sirloin steak, basil "bubble and squeak" potato (basically means potato and sweet corn), charon sauce. For those who can't eat beef due to religion; they have lamb. I don't have the description for the lamb dish =P

Picture with the bride and groom; Jessica and Randy

* Note to self; no matter what is the situation next time, do not slouch when taking photo. I look so big size!!

I was sick; down with sore throat and fever that night; therefore couldn't stay long for the dinner, had to miss dessert.. =(... sigh, the dessert should be good!!
For dessert; they served chocolate souffle cake, cointreau strawberry, double cream and tea or coffee.

Barossa Food and Wine Festival (again) but 2007

Food Food Food..... soooo much food... all the eating took one day only.... no wonder I'm gaining weight.

Not to forget the wines of course

Penfolds winery (an example of what is inside a cellar door)

I like the way they emphasise the "one standard drink". *Note: The bottle contained 9 liters of Cabernet Sauvignon. Makes shop lifting a little hard, doesn't it?

Random photos I took during this trip. Pink Sakura & a wine brand called "Old Bastard"

Royal Adelaide Show (again) but for 2007!

A brief one day tour of the Adelaide Royal Show....
There were spinning rides from day till night.

The first opening day/night scenery of the show.

Next to the rides, there were always tempting soft toys that you'd have to play games to win. Don't really like crazy frog, but when they are all align togather, they just looked cute and crazy.

Learn to appreciate wine. go for the Cellar Door experience.

The one that I went to was learn to drink shiraz. Four different glasses of shiraz, and a small descriptive infomation about the wines, where it was from, what year it was made, the smell and flavour you should be tasting.
First you look at the wine colour; blood red, strawberry red.. etc
The give the glass a ittle twirl and stick your nose into the glass and whiff the wine; plum, oak, ... etc. Finally drink a mouth full of the wine, swish around in your mouth, while sucking in some air to allowthe flavour to blossom on your taste buds.

What happens when you combine a bad camera woman (aka me) and pigs racing and diving?? Bad pictures. Missed all the piggies in action.

Ahh but pigs aside, here comes the doggies!!!
CHOW CHOWS!!! brown and black!

ROTTWEILERS!!!!! with tails.

And other little doggies... sooooooo cuuuuttteeeeeee

It was a looooong day at the show, competition and everything. Looking at strangers looking at you, going goo goo gaa gaa .... takes alot of energy... therefore zzzzzzzzz......

The show ended with fireworks....
